QCOSTARICA — Within the framework of the Korean-Inter-American Digital Government Forum 2024, Costa Rica’s Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación, Tecnología y Telecomunicaciones (MICITT) – Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications, announced a strategic alliance with the Government of Korea to promote digital transformation in the region, with the presentation of a pioneering “Digital Wallet” project.
This ambitious project, developed jointly by both countries, will allow Costa Rican citizens to access a secure digital platform to carry out transactions and verify their tax status efficiently, in this first version, which will gradually grow with more services.
The initiative is part of the effort to modernize public administration and bring government services closer to the population.

The Forum brought together government leaders, technology experts and representatives of the private sector from Korea and Latin America to discuss the latest trends in digital government, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
“The ‘Digital Wallet’ is a concrete example of how international cooperation can generate innovative solutions to improve the lives of citizens,” said Paula Bogantes, Minister of MICITT, who also explained that “the creation of this digital services product is the fruit of a close and successful collaboration between the Republic of South Korea, a country that has been a global leader in digital transformation issues, and Costa Rica, which through the Korea-Costa Rica Digital Government Center, we have been able to learn from its experience by adopting good practices and taking advantage of its knowledge in the development of cutting-edge technologies.”
The event was also the setting for the exchange of experiences in the implementation of Artificial Intelligence policies in the public sector, as well as the presentation of success stories from Korean companies in areas such as renewable energy and facial recognition technology.
With this alliance, Costa Rica and Korea are positioned at the forefront of digital transformation in Latin America, laying the foundations for broader regional collaboration in the field of digital government.
