Anything & Everything Costa Rica

What’s the weather going to be like in the coming days?

QCOSTARICA — Supposedly we are in the “dry season”, but the rains just won’t let go. So, if you have vacation plans, take note that the national weather service, the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN), reported the transition in Costa Rica’s weather conditions, marking the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.

According to the trend, for the coming days the arrival of cold fronts to the north of the Caribbean Sea will increase the pressure in Central America, which will intensify the trade winds. This will bring more humidity to the Caribbean and the North Zone, with possible scattered showers during the day.

Forecast by periods

  • Mornings: Variable cloudiness, from mostly cloudy to partly cloudy, initially in the Pacific and then in the Caribbean and the North Zone. Probability of rain on the Caribbean coast and parts of the North Zone starting on Wednesday.
  • Afternoons: Scattered showers and showers in the Central and South Pacific, which will become more isolated as the week progresses. Partially cloudy to mostly cloudy in the Caribbean and the North Zone.
  • Nights: Isolated coastal showers at the beginning of the period in the Pacific. Cloudy with variable rains in the Caribbean and the North Zone, with greater probability from Wednesday to Sunday. Localized showers will continue around the Golfo Dulce.

Winds and temperatures

Moderate winds are expected, more intense in the north of the country and the mountain ranges. Temperatures will rise in the Pacific regions, where the rains will be more dispersed, although the South Pacific could have more rains due to the movement of the ITCZ.

According to the IMN, the extreme temperatures will be as follows:

  • Central Valley: Maximum of 30°C and minimum of 15°C.
  • North Pacific: Maximum of 34°C and minimum of 18°C.
  • Central Pacific: Maximum of 32°C and minimum of 14°C.
  • South Pacific: Maximum of 33°C and minimum of 8°C.
  • Caribbean: Maximum of 30°C and minimum of 17°C.
  • Northern Zone: Maximum of 32°C and minimum of 18°C.

Official weather forecast for today, the first day of 2025:

Starting this Wednesday, there will be a gradual increase in atmospheric pressure over the Caribbean Sea, a situation that will be caused by the movement of a high pressure system from the south of the United States towards the Atlantic Ocean. This will cause a gradual increase in the intensity of the trade winds in Costa Rica and in turn will reduce the rainy episodes in the Pacific and Central Valley, as opposed to the Caribbean and the North Zone.
