QCOSTARICA — The United States represents 47% of Costa Rica’s exports, so a decision like the one made by Donald Trump to impose further tariffs on imported products starting April 2, including “reciprocal tariffs”, must be followed up, because it could have implications for the business sector.
The measure is focused on Mexico, Canada and China. It is unknown whether it will be applied to the entire world, but this is undoubtedly generating uncertainty.
“We think it is premature to talk about these measures. We must closely monitor the implementation of these measures and their evolution, and whether there will be any impact on Costa Rican exports to the United States and make informed decisions,” said Rodnney Salazar, president of the Chamber of Foreign Trade.

Pineapple, banana, and coffee are the products that Costa Rica exports the most to the United States, and in which some impact could be felt.
However, representatives of the Chamber of Exporters considered that they preferred to wait to issue an opinion and announced that they will analyze the export data to the United States.
