U.S. Embassy San Jos3 announces changes in the visa application process

QCOSTARICA — The Consular Section of the United States Embassy in San José, Costa Rica, will experience a change in the platform that users access to schedule appointments.

This process will have three essential phases for visa applicants:

  • For those who have an appointment scheduled for September 12 of this year or before. These applicants do not need to take any action. If they wish to enter the account they created on ustraveldocs.com to review appointment details or contact customer service, they can do so without any inconvenience.
  • For those who have an appointment scheduled between September 13 and September 20, 2024. These individuals will notice that they do not have access to the account they created on ustraveldocs.com, which means that they will not be able to cancel or reschedule their appointment during those ten days or contact customer service. They will need to print the appointment confirmation letter before September 13 and show up for the already scheduled appointment. In the event that applicants do not show up for their appointment, they may review the information available on the embassy’s website (cr.usembassy.gov), starting September 23, 2024, for specific instructions on how to reschedule their appointment.
  • For those with an appointment scheduled for September 23, 2024 or later. These applicants must log on to the U.S. Embassy’s website, starting September 23, 2024, for updated information on how to create a new user account, as they will not have access to the account they created on the ustraveldocs.com platform, nor cancel or reschedule the appointment, nor have access to customer service. They will need to create a new account to review their profile information, make changes, submit requests, or contact customer service.

Those who have already paid the visa application fee but have not scheduled an interview appointment should do so as soon as possible.

You must log in to the profile you created and associate the payment with the receipt number before September 4 of this year. Failure to do so before this date may result in delays and/or complications in the appointment scheduling process.

If people have not started the visa application process or paid the service fee and are planning to travel to the United States after September 23, it is recommended that they wait until after that date to start the process.

Other important dates

These changes also imply a change in the company that receives and delivers documents for those who can apply for visa renewal (people whose visas expired less than four years ago).

  • September 16, 2024, is the deadline to deliver documents at Cargo Expreso Premium Delivery.
  • September 18, 2024, is the last day to deliver documents at the Cargo Expreso office located in downtown San José.After which, there will be new locations for the delivery and collection of documents.

The most important thing is that: September 23, 2024 is when the new platform for the US visa application process goes into operation.

Fee payments, appointment scheduling, and customer service will be available from this day on.
