Fatal Incident in Nosara Leaves Community in Mourning
In a heartrending incident in Nosara, Nicoya, Guanacaste, a Costa Rican man, approximately 38 years old, tragically lost his life after falling from a canopy. The accident occurred on Monday morning, casting a somber shadow over the district renowned for its scenic beauty and adventure sports.
The Emergency Response to the Canopy Accident
The Nosara Fire Brigade reported to La Nación that they received an alert at 11:06 a.m. from a worker at the canopy site. Despite their rapid response, it took until noon for the rescue team to retrieve the victim’s body. The identity of the deceased has not been publicly disclosed at this time.
Erick Castro, a lieutenant with the Nosara Fire Brigade, detailed the challenging recovery operation. “Several rescuers arrived at the scene where the victim had fallen from the eighth line of the canopy. One of our team members descended along the line to reach the body. Unfortunately, our assessment confirmed that the young man had died at the scene. It took us an hour to extract him,” he explained.
The lieutenant further noted that the victim fell from a height of between 250 to 300 meters in a mountainous area, complicating the retrieval efforts.
Details of the Tourist Complex Withheld
In respect of the ongoing investigation and possibly out of sensitivity to the victim’s family, Castro chose not to disclose the name of the tourist complex where the fatal accident occurred.
Costa Rican Red Cross and Police Involvement
The Costa Rican Red Cross confirmed that paramedics from a private company attended the emergency. Following the incident, police authorities arrived at the site to commence their investigation and proceed with the official procedures for handling the aftermath of such tragic events.
