Route 27 tolls will be reduced by 2025

QCOSTARICA — Starting January 1, 2025, users of the Ruta 27 (San José – Caldera), will see a toll reduction.

According to the concessionaire company Globalvia, these reductions respond to the variations in the price of the dollar exchange rate, as well as the consumer price index (CPI), which has facilitated the reduction.

“On this occasion, there are reductions for light vehicles at the San Rafael, Atenas and Pozón tolls of ¢10 each. However, the rates also decrease for other vehicles, depending on their category and weight,” the company reported.

Ruta 27 covers a total of 76.8 kilometers, connects San José in the Central Valley and Puerto Caldera in the Central Pacific, and is used mainly for the development of tourism and industry in Costa Rica.

The road connects the cantons of San José, Escazú, Santa Ana, Alajuela, Atenas, Orotina and Esparza. It has four toll booths on the main route and five located on its branches.

Ruta 27 was officially inaugurated on January 27, 2010, in the second administration of Óscar Arias Sanchez.

The idea of a route to the Pacific began decades prior. The current design of the road has existed since 1978. Due to budgetary and political reasons, as well as poor administrative decisions, it was not opened until 32 years later, in several construction stages since 2005.
