President Rodrigo Chaves characterizes the Legislative Assembly a “circus”

QCOSTARICA — On Wednesday, President Rodrigo Chaves once again legislators and even went so far as to say that the Legislative Assembly “is a circus.”

The president’s annoyance with the legislators is based not only on the slow progress of fundamental bills for the country, but also on some attitudes that he called “political baseness.”

What seems to have gotten Chaves peeved is giving out government party legislator Pilar Cisneros’ private cell phone number by PLN legislator Geison Valverde.

Valverde said during Tuesday’s Legislative session that by publishing Cisneros’ private phone number and email, the residents of Limón who recently lost their jobs due to the dollar exchange rate, can call her to get a new job.

“I think the same thing that people think about the Legislative Assembly (…). It is a circus that costs the country ¢200 million colones a day. What legislator Geison Valverde did is low. Look at the kind of legislator the man is,” said Chaves.

In addition to Valverde, Chaves launched an attack against the current president of the Legislative Assembly, Rodrigo Arias, who fails to maintain order during the plenary session, leading to legislators spending more time in the Assembly cafeteria rather than focusing on making decisions.

Likewise, Chaves indicated that in two and a half years, legislator and his main rival in the 2022 presidential elections, Eli Feinzaig, of the Partido Liberal Progresista, has not managed to promote a single reform bill that reaches the legislative floor.
