QCOSTARICA — Metered street parking will return to the capital city no later than mid-April, with the Municipality of San José signing a contract with the Setex-Alpha San José Consortium.
The reactivation of the parking meters, essential for vehicle regulation in the central canton, will be possible after the municipal Legal Department endorsed the agreement this week, with the company now having a maximum of 60 days to get them operating again.
San José Mayor Diego Miranda stressed that his administration will ensure compliance with the contract and the correct management of municipal resources.

“We will be firm so that the contract is executed correctly. Our commitment is to take care of the resources of the people of San José, guaranteeing that the terms established in the law are met,” said the local leader.
Epark will continue to be the digital means to manage payment for spaces, allowing users to continue using their virtual accounts and wallets.
However, the parking meters that allow payment with cards will be renewed in accordance with the provisions of the contract.
In addition to the renewal of meters, the 2,760 parking meter zones will be marked again and the inspectors of the Directorate of Citizen Security and Municipal Police will receive new equipment to carry out their work.
The cost of parking will continue to be ¢960 per hour, and fines of ¢9,600 colones for infractions will begin to be applied as soon as the service is operational again.
The contract signed between the Municipality of San José and Setex-Alpha San José is for 10 years, with a review midway through the period to evaluate possible renegotiations.
