Know the new fuel prices in effect today

QCOSTARICA — Costa Rica woke up to higher fuel prices approved by the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep), and published on Monday in the Official Gazette La Gaceta.

Super gasoline increased by 11 colones a liter, from ¢671 to ¢682; regular gasoline increased by 21 colones a liter, from ¢650 to ¢671, while diesel is now be 22 colones per liter more expensive, from ¢570 to ¢592.

The price increase also applies to all other types of fuels, such the 25-pound tank of propane, the most popular format in most homes across the country, by ¢271, now costing ¢7,694.

The increase is the extraordinary adjustment corresponding to February 2025.

ARESEP explained that purchase costs for Costa Rica’s Refinery that refines nothing, the RECOPE, increased due to the international price of fuels.

“It is necessary to reiterate that the international fuel market continues to experience high volatility in the short term.

“During February, specifically, the adverse impact of geopolitical factors and weather conditions in the northern hemisphere was confirmed, considering that these two factors exerted upward pressure on the international price of all the most consumed finished products imported by RECOPE,” stated Energy Superintendent Mario Mora.

For visitors and newcomers to Costa Rica, it is important to note that the prices are in effect at all gasoline stations in the country, no matter their location or brand. If you find a gasoline station with higher prices than those established by RECOPE, you can file a complaint with the Aresep or send us an email for forwading to the regulating authority.
