QCOSTARICA — The State power and light company, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), announced a reduction in rates for homes, businesses, and industries for 2025.
This is after the regulatory authority, the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep), approved in December the reduction requested by the ICE.
Thus, the reduction in rates applies to the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, and the rate setting establishes the following reductions by system:

- -18.06% for generation.
- -9.99% for transmission.
- -7.81% in distribution.
According to ICE, this is the result of a series of actions carried out such as the optimization of the cost structure, the improvement of debt conditions, as well as the execution of a strict control of expenses carried out during the last years; as well as, an increase in electricity demand.
“We are pleased that 2025 begins with good news, thanks to our commitment to maintain stable and competitive rates for all sectors. We have provided an adequate investment environment for companies and industries, and in this way, we continue to generate value for Costa Rican society,” said Marco Acuña, president of Grupo ICE.
At the same time, ICE projects an increase in demand of 3.25% for 2025, and predicts that the stability of rates will be maintained throughout the year.
