QCOSTARICA — The Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels (CCH) revealed that, during the upcoming Semana Santa (Holy Week), from March 24 to March 31, room occupancy would reach 82% nationwide.
The estimates are based on the latest occupancy survey carried out by the CCH in lodging establishments in various areas of the country.
According to booking records, there is currently 70% occupancy for next week, although it is expected that this number will continue to rise as the holidays approach. The most requested destinations will be mountain and beach hotels, with an expected occupancy of 91% and 87% respectively, while city hotels would remain close to 65%.

By region, accommodations located in Guanacaste and the Caribbean lead occupancy, with 95%. They are followed by establishments located in the Northern sector (89%), the Central Pacific (87%), the South Pacific (86%), Puntarenas (84%) and, finally, the Central Valley (62%).
Comparatively, with Semana Santa 2023, 29% of the hotels consulted indicated having a higher occupancy for the same period in 2024, while 51% indicated similar levels. Only 20% report having a lower occupation.
It is important to note that traffic conditions will be at peak for destinations outside the Central Valley, in particular, Wednesday and then Sunday for the return home.
In the area around the San Jose airport, expect congestion due to the current road reconstruction projects (multiple areas being affected at the same time), allow extra time to reach the airport, and patience leaving the air terminal.
Both international airports, the San Jose Airport (SJO) and Guanacaste Airport (LIR) in Liberia are anticipated to be running at maximum capacity.
