QCOSTARICA — The Ministry of Health announced that the yellow fever vaccine is no longer mandatory for Costa Ricans seeking to return to the country.
The vaccination is temporarily postponed until May 11 due to a vaccine shortage in the country.
Months ago, the Ministry was conducting vaccination campaigns for all people with planned trips to countries on the list established by the authorities.

The yellow fever vaccine will is required for entry to Costa Rica after visiting 43 countries considered at risk for transmission of the disease, including Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru.
Due to reported shortages in private pharmacies, the Ministry of Health conducted two vaccination campaigns in December and January to mitigate the shortage.
Initially, the government refused to accept vaccines administered abroad, but after a series of issues with Costa Rican travelers, authorities reversed course and allowed their recognition.
However, the measure generated new problems when airlines prevented the return of passengers who had not completed 10 days since their vaccination abroad, despite the fact that Article 22 of the Political Constitution prohibits Costa Ricans from imposing requirements that would prevent them from entering the country.
Due to this situation, the Ministry of Health also issued a provision exempting those vaccinated abroad from waiting the 10-day period to return to the country.
