QCOSTARICA — The nighttime flight of U.S. military helicopters, equipped with reflectors and special lights for patrols has attracted the attention of those who heard and saw them fly over various communities in Costa Rica in recent days.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) reported that these are operational actions carried out by the Air Surveillance Service in recent weeks.
“The men and women in the air force out overflights around the coastal area of the central Caribbean and at strategic points on the Pacific coast as well as over the Central Valley,” reported the MSP.

Javier Moreira Villegas, director of the Air Surveillance Service, stated that these are preventive overflights in strategic sites, in support of operations carried out by other police forces, including the Intelligence and Criminal Analysis Directorate of the Fuerza Publica (National Police).
The MSP added that the flights are possible with four UH-1ST helicopters of the Black Hawk program that began four years ago and with the support of the United States Embassy in Costa Rica, through the Office for Anti-Narcotics Affairs and Citizen Security and Justice (INL).
