Guanacaste adds two new direct flights from Canada

Q COSTARICA — The Guanacaste Airport announced two new air routes from Canada, operated by Westjet, the Canadian airline headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, with flights beginning operations on December 12, 2025.

Direct flights from Vancouver and Winnipeg will arrive in Guanacaste weekly, on Fridays and Saturdays, until April 25, 2026.

The flight from Vancouver will arrive at the Guanacaste airport at 9:21 a.m. and depart for the return flight at 10:30 a.m. The flight from Winnipeg will arrive at 6:01 a.m. and depart at 7:00 a.m.

With this expansion, Guanacaste Airport strengthens its leadership in air connectivity with Canada, its second-largest tourist source market.

“WestJet is delighted to add Guanacaste Airport to its network from Winnipeg and Vancouver, deepening our commitment to serving the diverse and vibrant regions of Costa Rica,” said Mike Perkins, WestJet Senior Manager of Airport Affairs.

The airport currently offers direct flights to and from Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary. Starting in December, it will add connections to Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Ottawa.

Thus, Guanacaste is positioned as the airport with the most direct routes from Canada to Costa Rica, consolidating its regional leadership.

Between January and May 2025, 147,743 Canadian tourists entered the country by air, with Guanacaste being its main gateway, according to the ICT.
