For allegedly helping out his uncle, Mora mayor in hot water

QCOSTARICA — In less than a month in office, the new mayor of the Canton de Mora, Alfonso Jiménez Cascante, is formally accused by the Prosecutor’s Office, of the alleged crime of breach of duties.

The prosecution maintains that Jiménez managed municipal matters related to his family, helping out an uncle, identified as Cascante Mora, despite being legally obliged to refrain from intervening in these cases due to a conflict of interest.

The uncle also faces charges for alleged ideological falsehood.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the uncle would have gotten his nephew, the mayor who took office on May 1, to include false information in an official document to evade the request for municipal permits necessary for construction on his property.

This case highlights the continuous efforts by authorities to maintain integrity and transparency in public management and combat corruption.
