QCOSTARICA — The Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación, Tecnología y Telecomunicaciones (MICITT) – Costa Rica’s science, technology and telecommunications ministry – launched a public consultation on the creation of a national e-government agency.
The initiative was approved by law almost three years ago under the administration of Carlos Alvarado (2018-2022) but has not seen any advance since.

The agency’s role is to implement transversal and strategic services and projects in the area of digital government.
The goal is “to provide citizens with simple, agile, secure and transparent access to all their actions or transactions in the state and government system,” according to a MICITT statement.
The agency will also handle interoperability and transparency of government systems and international coordination on digital government, among other attributions.
According to the law, the agency will be under the umbrella of MICITT.
The agency’s board will comprise one representative each from MICITT, the ministries of finance, national planning and economic policy, and of industry and commerce.
