COVID-19 continues circulating in Costa Rica: 255 new cases in the last week

QCOSTARICA — COVID-19 continues to be the virus that is circulating most strongly in Costa Rica. In the last epidemiological week – from August 4 to 10 – the Ministry of Health reported a total of 255 new cases; a decrease of 16.12% compared to the previous seven days.

For the period, 117 people were also hospitalized due to Covid; an increase of 1.74% compared to the previous week.

Regarding deaths, there were 6 associated with COVID-19 were reported; 40% less than seven days ago.

According to the Ministry of Health, vaccination against COVID-19 is 90.1% in coverage of first doses, 84.7% in second doses, 57.9% in third doses, 24% in fourth doses, and 6.6% in fifth doses.

Other respiratory viruses

COVID-19 is followed by Rhinovirus and Influenza, according to the Ministry of Health report.

As of August 3, a total of 6,572 accumulated cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) were recorded, the majority distributed among children between 1 and 4 years old and in people over 75 years old.

As for Upper Acute Respiratory Infections (URI), which include the common cold, pharyngitis, epiglottitis, and laryngotracheitis, up to that date, a total of 799,487 cases had been accumulated in the country; the majority in children between 1 and 4 years old and children between 5 and 9 years old.

Finally, in relation to cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), a total of 15,027 were reported up to that period. The cases distributed by five-year age groups have the highest distribution in people between 20 and 24 years old; as well as the population between 30 and 34 years old.
