Costa Rica to Host the Thrilling FISU World University Championship Cycling – The Costa Rican Times

From May 29 to June 2, the vibrant city of San Carlos, Costa Rica, will transform into the epicenter of university sports as it hosts the exhilarating FISU World University Championship Cycling. This prestigious event promises to draw cycling enthusiasts from around the globe with its challenging courses and spectacular tropical setting.

San Carlos: A Scenic Sports Sanctuary

San Carlos is renowned not just for its breathtaking landscapes but also for its rich tradition of hosting international sporting events. The 2024 FISU World University Championship is set to further this legacy, offering a blend of competitive spirit and cultural immersion. With average temperatures ranging from a pleasant 22°C to a balmy 31°C, athletes and spectators can enjoy the events in truly tropical conditions.

The Host: Costa Rica Institute of Technology

The Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC), one of the nation’s top five public universities, is proud to host this global event. With campuses across Costa Rica, TEC is a leader in technology and science education and research. Having successfully hosted the FISU America Forum in 2020 and the FISU World Forum in 2022, TEC is well-prepared to welcome over 100 athletes to the vibrant city of San Carlos.

The Championship Program

The championship will kick off with the fast-paced Criterium on May 29, where cyclists will navigate a 3.5 km circuit around Ciudad Quesada Park. The competition heats up with the Individual Time Trial on May 30, challenging the men to a 19 km race and the women to a 17 km course. The Road Race on May 31 will see men covering 112 km and women 86 km, both starting and finishing at TEC’s Santa Clara campus.

Mountain biking will also feature prominently, with the Eliminator (XCE) scheduled for June 1 and the Cross Country (XCO) on June 2. These events promise to test the mettle of all participants with their demanding courses and technical challenges.
