Costa Rica Showcases Audiovisual Excellence at Cannes’ Marché du Film – The Costa Rican Times

Costa Rica’s national audiovisual industry is once again set to shine on the global stage, this time at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film in France, scheduled from May 14 to 22. A strong delegation from Costa Rica, spearheaded by the Foreign Trade Promotor (PROCOMER) and including notable local firms such as Noche Negra Producciones, EQV Worldwide Film Services, Café Cinema, Cymbiola Films, Gelb-Hi Pictures, and Equal Film, will represent the country at the essential COSTA RICA stand. This presence underscores Costa Rica’s commitment to promoting its burgeoning film services, content production capabilities, and its standing as a top-tier film destination.

A Hub for Networking and Opportunities

The Marché du Film serves as an indispensable platform for film professionals worldwide, including filmmakers, producers, directors, actors, distributors, sales agents, streaming platforms, investors, and other industry stakeholders. It is renowned for fostering business opportunities, supporting international collaborations, and promoting innovative projects. For Costa Rica, it represents a unique opportunity to showcase the talent and innovation of its local audiovisual sector to an international audience.

Mario Sáenz, Export Development Manager of PROCOMER, emphasized the importance of the event: “The Marché du Film is not only a venue for transacting business but also a global showcase demonstrating the capabilities and creativity of Costa Rican professionals. It is a place where synergies are formed, and future collaborations are initiated.”

Promoting Local Film Zones and Industry Incentives

A key objective for the Costa Rican delegation is to highlight the country’s six Film Friendly Zones and the recent incentives introduced to bolster the industry. These initiatives are designed to attract co-productions and foster a conducive environment for both local and international filmmakers.

Sáenz added, “Our participation in the Marché du Film is aimed at enhancing the visibility of our local projects and talent while drawing the attention of potential foreign investors. Costa Rica offers a supportive investment climate and a developing audiovisual infrastructure, making it an appealing destination for foreign direct investment in the film and audiovisual sector.”

Looking Ahead to Regional Collaborations

The event will also serve as a promotional platform for the 2024 Central American and Caribbean Film, TV, and New Media Market. This regional event, set to take place from September 10 to 12, 2024, at the Costa Rica Convention Center, aims to promote integration and cooperation among countries in the region within the audiovisual sector.

Costa Rica’s ongoing participation in international events like the Marché du Film is crucial for the continued growth of its audiovisual industry. By engaging with global partners and showcasing its local talents and landscapes, Costa Rica not only enhances its cultural footprint but also positions itself as a formidable player in the international film and media production arena.
