Q COSTA RICA — Costa Rica, due to its geographical location, has served as a bridge for millions of people who migrated from their native country in search of another territory to settle in.
In many cases, they stay in Costa Rica to obtain better security conditions, employability, or even asylum due to political persecution. However, sometimes they are unable to find a decent job.
For this reason, the European Union, in alliance with the Spanish Cooperation, MIDEPLAN, and more than 11 public and private sector entities, have once again demonstrated their commitment to social welfare, as well as the progress of nations, which is why they are promoting a campaign to promote the Plataforma del Sistema Nacional de Empleo (Brete.cr) platform.

Any person and employer who is based in the country will be able to connect to search for new talent or job opportunities in an agile manner, but above all with support.
Integrated service
Brete.cr has assistance. Support staff, known as “Agents Brete”, will answer queries both by email and by phone, all during business hours from Monday to Monday from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
“We recognize that Costa Rica has become one of the main migration destinations in Latin America, with nearly 10% of its population made up of migrants, refugees, or asylum seekers. For this reason, the European Union has allocated 2.5 million euros to support the country in improving regularization processes, health coverage and employability for these people,” said the ambassador of the European Union in Costa Rica, Pierre-Louis Lempereur.
These actions that promote the well-being and development of communities have been thanks to the project “Health Coverage and Access to Decent Employment for Migrants, Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CSAEM).”

Contribution of the migrant population
Various investigations have shown that the labor shortage has been filled thanks to the migrant working population, which allows production in different sectors.
In addition, recent studies suggest that the growth mentality of foreign people allows them to develop as entrepreneurs due to their resilience developed during challenges they experienced throughout their move to a new country.

Migrations in the World 2020 revealed that migrants manage to strengthen innovation worldwide through patents and entrepreneurship and even with their greater contribution to the creation of companies compared to natives. They also encourage investment, trade and the use of technology.
International collaboration and inter-institutional coordination
CSAEM is funded by the European Union, coordinated by Spanish Cooperation in the country and executed by the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (MIDEPLAN) in which the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and the General Directorate of Migration and Immigration of Costa Rica (DGME) participate as implementing partners.
