QCOSTARICA — On Saturday various cities around the world was the scene of demonstrations, almost three weeks after Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed re-elected in Venezuela, surrounded by accusations of fraud.
Costa Rica was no exception.
Venezuelans gathered in the Plaza de la Democracia to raise their voices in favor of human rights, democracy and freedom, demanding the government of Edmundo González and María Corina Machado, opponents of the Nicolás Maduro regime.

Venezuelans thanked Costa Ricans for welcoming them into the country, a place where they found refuge and freedom. Flags of Venezuela, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico and Cuba could be seen in the plaza.
Supporting Venezuelans in Costa Rica in their struggle is former president of Costa Rica Miguel Ángel Rodríguez (1998-2002).
“María Corina said a few days ago that this was the beginning of the end of the dictatorship, and it is an important step towards that end. Venezuelans, for the first time, united: both those opposed to the regime and those who have traditionally been Chavistas. They united because they want freedom, because they are hungry, because they face difficulties, because change is necessary, and because they are not willing to endure any more of the opprobrium, arbitrariness and cruelty of this dictatorship,” said Rodríguez.
In his message, the former expressed his joy that Venezuelans are grouping and demonstrating in all countries with enormous courage.
“Despite everything, Venezuelans are showing their faces and fighting for their democracy. Let us not abandon them. The fight is to the end,” he added.
