QCOSTARICA — Costa Rica is one of the five least cybersecure countries in the world according to a study published by Proxyrack on January 8.
To obtain the results, the proxy server provider analyzed more than 100 countries considering factors such as: government commitment to cybersecurity, quality of its legislation, and protection and preparation initiatives against possible cyber attacks.
The analysis used a comprehensive methodology that combined different international indexes, such as the Global Cybersecurity Exposure Index, the National Cybersecurity Index and the Level of Digital Development, and the Global Cybersecurity Index.

Based on this data, each country was assigned a cybercrime risk score: the higher, the greater the risk.
With 3.98 points, Costa Rica is in fourth position, below Chile, Belarus, and Panama, ranked number 1.
In terms of exposure to cybercrime, Costa Rica scored 4.38, in national cybersecurity it scored 4.68 and in digital development, it scored 3.77.
Costa Rcia is among the most cyber exposed due to a combination of vulnerable digital infrastructure, lack of cyber education and limitations in the application of laws and digital protection policies, according to the study.
Other Latin American countries such as Chile and Uruguay were also placed in high-risk positions, which shows that the region faces a systemic challenge in terms of cybersecurity.
In contrast, Europe leads in cybersecurity, with Finland, France, Sweden and Denmark as the safest countries thanks to robust systems and preventive strategies.
