This notable increase underlines the growing interest and preference for sustainable mobility alternatives among consumers.

The government and various sectors have implemented measures and policies that encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, such as tax incentives, subsidies, and the expansion of charging infrastructure.

These initiatives not only seek to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also promote energy efficiency and the modernization of the country’s vehicle fleet.

With the continuous increase in the supply of electric models and the improvement in battery autonomy, it is expected that the trend towards the electrification of transportation in Costa Rica will continue to rise.

In the country, there are currently 16,531 electric vehicles on the roads according to data from the Registro Nacional (National Vehicle Registry) as of June 2024.
