Cold Surge #9: low temperatures and more rain for several days

Q COSTARICA — The national weather service, the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN), is forecasting the arrival of Cold Surge #9 today, Wednesday.

The meteorological phenomenon will enter the country through the Caribbean Sea, whose effects will be felt at night.

According to the IMN, Cold Surge #9 will cause low temperatures and prolonged rain for the next 3 to 4 days primarily in the areas:

  • The Northern Zone
  • The Northern Caribbean
  • The Southern Caribbean

These areas will also experience intense winds and greater cloud cover and the CNE authorities declared a green alert.

For the rest of the country, partial cloudiness is projected with the possibility of isolated showers in mountainous areas.

For this Wednesday, the trade wind will continue to accelerate, favoring moderate to strong gusts in the center and north of the country. The wind will also favor the entry of cloudiness and occasional rains towards sectors of the Caribbean and Northern Zone, mainly in the morning.

In the afternoon, the windy pattern will persist, and partial cloudiness is projected to predominate nationwide with the possibility of isolated showers in mountainous areas. Cold Surge #9 will be passing through the northern Caribbean Sea today, generating an increase in atmospheric pressure over the basin.

It is expected that the effects of this system on the country will begin to be felt during the night with a reinforcement in the intensity of the wind and also greater cloud cover for the regions of the Caribbean and Northern Zone.
