Claudia Dobles tests the waters for a PAC 2026 presidential run

QCOSTARICA — Claudia Dobles Camargo, architect and former first lady of Costa Rica and wife of former President Carlos Alvarado (2018-2022), announced that she is considering running as a presidential candidate for the Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) for the 2026 national elections.

In a statement shared on her social media ON Monday, Dobles expressed her concern about the challenges facing the country, such as the deterioration in security, education and health services, in addition to the economic difficulties that affect Costa Rican families.

“The difficulties we face as Costa Ricans, as well as the love and commitment I feel for our country, lead me to consider putting my name forward as a presidential candidate for the Partido Acción Ciudadana,” said the former first lady.

“Costa Rica is experiencing a setback in our social achievements. Security, education and health are seriously threatened, and many people do not have enough money to make ends meet. “I am concerned about the future of the country if we do not resume dialogue and find solutions to face these challenges,” said Dobles.

Among her priorities, she highlighted the need to generate employment, improve security, strengthen road infrastructure to reduce traffic jams, protect the environment and guarantee greater social investment to combat inequalities.

“Transformations in issues such as science, technology, employment and the environment require a united Costa Rica with a strategic vision, based on respect, empathy, values and coexistence,” added Dobles.

If her candidacy is confirmed, Dobles would be one of the main figures of the PAC in the race for the presidency in 2026.
