Chepe Se Baña Inaugurates the “+HUMANOS” Health Center for Homeless People in Costa Rica ⋆ The Costa Rica News

The ProMundo Foundation, recognized in Costa Rica for the impact of its “Chepe se Baña” project, today inaugurated +HUMANOS, a new health center designed to provide medical services to homeless people, people living in extreme poverty, and migrants in transit.

Located 200 meters south of the Emergency Room entrance of the Clínica Bíblica, in the central canton of San José, the +HUMANOS facility opens its doors with the purpose of guaranteeing dignified access to healthcare, as part of the ProMundo Foundation’s mission to develop sustainable models of comprehensive care that can be replicated in different communities across the country.

Luis Montenegro, director of social programs at the ProMundo Foundation, stated:

+HUMANOS has general practitioners, support from advanced nursing and medical students from different universities; Dental services will soon be incorporated with students and professors from the University of Costa Rica. This will help cover basic primary care needs that, in most cases, have been out of reach for the most vulnerable population. Opening hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

+HUMANOS seeks to address health holistically, including physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions, as it does with other initiatives such as mobile hygiene stations, mental health programs, and cultural and rehabilitation activities.

Mauricio Villalobos, founder of “Chepe se Baña” and the ProMundo Foundation, enthusiastically expressed:

With +HUMANOS, we reaffirm our commitment to restoring dignity and hope to those most in need. Our goal is to offer comprehensive care that not only relieves physical ailments but also promotes inclusion and opportunities.

What is the ProMundo Foundation?

The ProMundo Foundation, founded in 2005, is dedicated to caring for homeless people, those with or without addiction problems, and those at social risk. Over the course of 20 years, it has promoted numerous humanitarian projects, including temporary shelters such as the Gary Home for families of hospitalized people, the Covid-19 Preventive Camp for homeless seniors, and Casa Libertad, as well as preventive health campaigns, life fairs, and harm reduction programs, all inspired and strengthened by the love of God.

“Chepe se Baña” is one of its most recognized projects, thanks to its shower buses and barbershop, and the Héroes Art School, which offers vocational and artistic training.

With the opening of +HUMANOS, the ProMundo Foundation continues to expand its reach and deepen its impact on Costa Rican society, reaffirming its vision of a community where every person has access to a dignified and full life.
