QCOSTARICA — The next mandatory pay holiday, the Battle of Rivas on April 11, will be moved to Monday, April 15.

The transfer of holidays was born in the pandemic caused by covid-19, a situation that deeply hit the tourism sector.

The mandatory pay holiday means employees are paid for the day even though they are not working, that is enjoy the day off. If required to pay, you can expect to be paid double the normal salary.

The next holiday is on July 25, Anexión de Guanacaste. This holiday will be enjoyed on the day it falls, a Thursday.

There is confusion because legislators originally approved that the holiday be moved to Monday, July 29, however, they backed down because this year, the day marks 200 years of the Annexation of Guanacaste.

July 25 is also a mandatory pay holiday and no long weekend.
