QCOSTARICA — American Airlines will expand its operations in Costa Rica this year, adding a route to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). The flight will be inaugurated on November 3, 2025, and will operate daily until April 6, 2026.
The service will be provided on a Boeing 737 aircraft with a capacity of 172 passengers.

“This route reflects our commitment to the country and offers Costa Rica travelers convenient access to our operations center in Chicago, where they can connect with more than 400 daily trips to more than 155 destinations,” said Rafael Sánchez, Regional Manager of Operations for Central America and the Western Caribbean.

According to the ICT, the city of Chicago is the fourth area of concentration of tourists with high interest in traveling to Costa Rica on their next vacations known as the best prospects, interested in visiting the destination to carry out sun and beach activities, observe the flora and fauna, enjoy the gastronomy or outdoor activities.
This 2025-2026 season, American Airlines will operate 56 weekly flights to and from the San José airport (SJO) to three hubs in the United States: Miami (MIA), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Charlotte (CLT) and Chicago (ORD). This represents a 25% increase in visitor capacity compared to the current average of 2024-2025.
