QCOSTARICA — An Israeli airstrike ended the life of Jacob Flickinger, a Canadian and an aid worker who had recently moved to Costa Rica to start a new life.
Jacob is one of seven aid workers delivering food to besieged Palestinians as part of the World Central Kitchen, a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization that provides food relief.
The 33-year-old, father of a son, married and had dual citizenship, in the United States and Canada, traveled to the Gaza Strip three weeks ago to distribute food with World Central Kitchen and was scheduled to leave later this week, his father, John, told the Washington Post.

“He was a good man. “He did what he liked and he only wanted to serve and help others,” said his father.
Jacob Flickinger was born and spent most of his childhood in Saint-Georges, a small town in Quebec, the son of a Canadian mother and an American father.
Flickinger spent almost a decade in the Canadian Armed Forces and did a tour of duty in Afghanistan, where he served in Kandahar, his father said.
After leaving the army in 2019, he met his partner, Sandy Leclerc, and they had a son.
The couple moved to Costa Rica, where Flickinger started a business as a fitness trainer.
