QCOSTARICA — After 40 years of planning, setbacks, legal problems, and expropriations, the remaining portion of the Circunvalacion project, one of the main traffic arteries of the capital city, is about to conclude.
We’re talking about the “norte” section that runs from Tibas to Calle Blanco,

With the work, expected to be completed in the second semester of the year, the Circunvalacion (Ruta 39) – the ring road around San Jose – that was inaugurated in 1979 – can be said completed.
The remaining portion of the north section is the fifth and final stage of the project, which will connect Calle Blanos with the Ruta 32 and the Viaduct that goes to La Uruca.
For years, the Ruta 39 ran from La Uruca, winding through the west, and south sides of San Jose and terminating on the east side, at the Rotonda del Bicentenario, in San Pedro.
The Circunvalacion is also the demarcation of the vehicular restrictions of San Jose, save for the north, which is expected to be included once completed.
Currently, work is being carried out on casting the last deck of the viaduct and excavating the depressed passage.

Likewise, at the two-level intersection of Calle Blanco, there are two ramps that allow traffic to be diverted from ruta109 and advance with the pile screen that will support the overpass.
“The final stage of the Circunvalación Norte project, which would unite the entire peripheral ring that surrounds the capital city, is already 70% complete and maintains works on the entire stretch that is being intervened. If everything goes as planned, the work will finish in the second half of this year,” said the current Minister of Obras Publicas y Transportes (MOPT), Luis Amador.
