More than 30 aftershocks, some up to 5.7 have been recorded, with more expected, following with the main earthquake.

Experts highlight that it is very normal for aftershocks to occur as a result of the transfer of static forces imposed by the main event on the southern region of our country.

Experts from the Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de la Universidad Nacional  (OVISCORI) – Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of the National University – point out that aftershocks in the event of a 6-degree tremor are normal and that an event of greater magnitude could not be ruled out.

The Southern Zone of Costa Rica is highly seismic, with microseisms being the most normal conditions in the region, however, these types of stronger tremors are not so common to occur in these places in the national territory, due to their infrequency.
