QCOSTARICA – The first indigenous peoples of Costa Rica were hunters and gatherers. When the Spanish arrived, the country’s unique geographical position between Mesoamerica and the Andean cultures created a blend of cultural influences.
Christopher Columbus made his first stop in Costa Rica in 1503 at Isla Uvita. Following the Civil War in 1948, the 1950s and 1960s saw a period of effective political governance by the Costa Rican population.
