167 cruise ships docked in Puntarenas, Quepos and Golfito in the 2023-2024 season

QCOSTARICA — With the arrival of the Pacific World Cruise from the Japanese shipping company Peace Boat, the 2023-2024 cruise season (September 2023 to June 2024) closed on Thursday, June 27.

Some 167 cruise ships docked in the three Pacific ports of the Instituto Costarricense de Puertos del Pacífico (INCOP): Puntarenas (67), Quepos  (52) and Golfito (48).

“At INCOP we will continue working to provide cruise passengers with the best experience when visiting our country and in particular Puntarenas. In addition, we will ensure that our docks always offer the necessary infrastructure conditions so that your arrival is safe and pleasant.” said Wagner Quesada Céspedes, executive president of INCOP.

A household name in Japan, Peace Boat, 261 meters in length and 32 meters wide, with 1,387 passengers and 689 crew members for the Costa Rica visit, has taken more than 90,000 people of all ages and nationalities around the world over the last 40 years.

The stopover in Costa Rica was for more than 12 hours in the Port of Puntarenas and passengers visited nearby tourist attractions such as Monteverde, Esparza, San Ramón, Naranjo, Tárcoles, Sarchí and the center of Puntarenas.

“At the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo we are proud of the joint work carried out in this 2023 – 2024 cruise season and the growth recorded, especially in expedition ships. We are left with permanent challenges to increase promotional efforts at the main cruise fairs, as well as attracting new cruise lines, together with improving the service to visitors and the tourism product, in view of the new season. what is coming” expressed Gustavo Alvarado, Director of Tourism Management at the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT) – Costa Rican Tourism Board.
