1 Million BCR customers will have to create a user to use electronic banking

QCOSTARICA — Nearly one million Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) customers will have to personalize their user to access the Virtual Office and the BCR Mobile app starting Monday, November 11.

This functionality has been available voluntarily; however, as of November 11, it will be part of the essential requirements to use the entity’s digital channels.

“Having a personalized user is safer than using the ID number, since it is for personal use, known only by the client and is not public knowledge or available on any internet platform. Its mandatory implementation is part of the constant improvements that the BCR makes to offer clients secure transactions,” said Fabián Jiménez, head of Digital Channels at the BCR.

If you are a BCR customer here is the step-by-step guide to creating a personalized user is a self-managed process that the client can do from their computer or phone, without having to install additional programs or access links sent by email or text messages.

All you have to do is:

  • Enter the Oficina Virtual (Virtual Office) at www.bancobcr.com, using your current user and password and the corresponding security mechanism.
  • Click on the “Security” button located in the upper right corner of the screen and choose “User” from the menu that appears.
  • On the next screen you will be able to see your current user and replace it with the new personalized user.
  • Then, click on “Verify” and, if everything is correct, you will have to enter the corresponding security mechanism (dynamic key or BCR Virtual Key).
  • A video tutorial is available on the BCR YouTube channel to facilitate the process.

Important:

  • The personalized user must be between 8 and 20 characters long.
  • It must contain at least four letters and four numbers.
  • Special characters (“ñ”, *, /, among others) must not be included.
  • If the client enters the BCR Mobile app with biometric data, after changing to the personalized user, they must log in with the new user for the first time; then they will be able to access with biometrics enabled.
  • It is not necessary to change the personalized user, since it never expires; However, if the client wishes, he/she can modify it by following the same steps described in the tutorial.
  • If the client forgets his/her personalized user, he/she can recover it using the “Recover my user” option.
