Anything & Everything Costa Rica

Costa Rica Captures the Attention of Canada and South America with Its Diverse Tourism ⋆ The Costa Rica News

The companies brought by the Proimagen Costa Rica group and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) visited established destinations such as La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio, as well as emerging and unconventional areas in regions such as Los Santos, Osa, and Caño Negro, on what are known as Fam Trips. They enjoyed authentic experiences such as whale watching, exploring biodiversity, and interacting directly with rural communities.

Among the participating South American countries were Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Colombia, markets that are increasingly showing interest in Costa Rica thanks to the increase in air connections and the country’s strategy to attract more tourism from that geographic area.

“With these experiences, we reaffirm our commitment to increasing tourist visitation and de-seasonalizing the seasons, through a strategy focused on sustainability, ecotourism, cultural richness, gastronomy, and a wide range of attractions,” emphasized Christian Doñas, president of Proimagen Costa Rica.

Canada: A Pillar Market for Costa Rica

The Canadian market has established itself as the second most important market for Costa Rica. In 2024 alone, the country will receive 257,395 Canadian tourist arrivals by air, representing 9.5% of total arrivals and 14.3% of arrivals from North America.

According to ICT studies, the average spending per person is US$202.87 per day, with a total of US$3,022 per trip and an average stay of 14.9 nights, demonstrating the importance of this market in terms of economic impact.

Canadians seek complete experiences: they enjoy sunbathing, the beach, snorkeling, kayaking, and rafting, as well as interacting with local people, cultures, and flavors. They prefer activities such as exploring volcanoes and waterfalls, visiting national parks, touring rural towns, enjoying hot springs and spas, whale watching, and visiting museums.

According to studies by the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), 70% of Canadians recognize Costa Rica as a country with a unique wealth of flora and fauna, diverse experiences, and friendly people, making it a highly competitive destination compared to other international markets.
