Celebrate Tapir Month in Bijagua Costa Rica ⋆ The Costa Rica News

This September, the Río Celeste and Bijagua Chamber of Tourism (CATURI) is promoting Tapir Month with special activities and packages. In the canton of Upala, Bijagua and Río Celeste are consolidating their position as destinations where nature, tourism, and conservation coexist in harmony.

A symbol of unity, education, and pride

In addition to the Río Celeste waterfall, the Tapir has become a symbol of unity, education, and pride for the area’s residents. Visitors can enjoy lodging, dining, and tours, in addition to observing tapirs in the wild during this season.

“September is the ideal month to see tapirs, as it is the season for the guava harvest, their favorite dessert,” said Claudia Silva, president of CATURI. He also explained that the program includes nighttime frog tours, chocolate, pineapple, and coffee tours, and tubing on the mighty Río Celeste.

Combining education, research, and conservation

The tapir’s closeness to the community reflects a collective effort that combines education, research, and conservation for several decades in the region. Organizations such as Costa Rica Wildlife and Tapir Valley have worked alongside CATURI to educate farmers and families about the importance of protecting the species.
