Q24N (EFE) US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday a 100% tariff on all films produced abroad, hoping to boost domestically produced films.
In a message on Truth Social, the US president said he has authorized the Department of Commerce and the Office of the US Trade Representative, headed by Howard Lutnick and Jamieson Greer, respectively, to immediately implement the tariff.
“WE WANT AMERICAN-MADE CINEMA AGAIN!” Trump wrote, after warning that the American film industry “is dying rapidly.”

The president warned that other countries are offering all kinds of incentives to lure filmmakers and studios away from the United States. “Hollywood, and many other areas in the US, are being devastated,” the Republican stated.
Trump did not provide details on how the new tariffs will be implemented, which are in addition to the tariffs imposed on dozens of countries in early April, which sparked a trade war with China.
In fact, Beijing announced in the middle of last month that it would reduce imports of Hollywood films, opening a new front in the trade dispute between the two powers.
China is the second largest market for the film industry after the United States.
