“Aldesa wasn’t a robbery? And everyone gets away with it!”

QCOSTARICA — Costa Rica President Rodrigo Chaves blamed the corruption problem experienced in the country on the formulation of laws and their execution, since, in his opinion, incidents like “Aldesa” happen because of this, as well as those who administer the jurisprudence and allow these events to continue happening.

This Aldesa case dates back to 2019, when the bankruptcy court denied the possibility of restructuring the company, which had a liquidity problem so it was declared bankrupt and the investors, some for decades, were left without receiving anything, had placed in the company for decades.

Diamante was not corruption? And Cochinilla? Aldesa was not a robbery of at least US$250 million? And everyone goes unpunished! But whoever steals three Doritos (tortilla chips), boom, done! They let go the guy that was selling fentanyl, it’s that the laws are not there for that here in Costa Rica,” said Chaves.
