QCOSTARICA — If you work in the private sector and receive minimum wage, a 2.37% salary adjustment came into effect this Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as confirmed by the Ministry of Labor (MTSS).
This increase is mandatory for all workers who earn the minimum wage in the country.
As explained by the MTSS:

- The 2.37% adjustment must be reflected in the first payment of this year, whether weekly, biweekly or monthly.
- In addition to the general adjustment, additional adjustments were established: 2.33962% additional for domestic work and 0.5562880% additional for workers in Specialized Occupation Generic.
This increase was agreed in October 2024 by the National Salary Council (CNS) after a majority vote within the CNS, which is a tripartite council with representatives from the employer, labor and state sectors.
The updated list of minimum wages for the private sector can be consulted here.
The list details the minimum salaries of the different occupations, paid weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, as indicated.
For example, the minimum daily salary for a worker in an unskilled occupation (TNOC) such as a salonero (waiter), is ¢12,236; skilled occupation worker (TOC) such as a barber, ¢13,767. The daily salary for a cabinetmaker (worker in specialized occupation – TOE) is ¢15,983; a higher specialization worker (TSE) such as a refrigeration technician would earn ¢24,805 daily.
On the monthly wages for various occupations, a secretary would earn a minimum salary of ¢413,013 and ¢653,427 with a college degree or ¢781,109 if a university graduate.
