QCOSTARICA — The national weather service, the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN), announced that a progressive increase in rainfall is expected, especially in the Caribbean region and the Northern Zone.
In addition, the intensity of the winds is expected to increase in the north and center of the national territory.
All this is due to cold pressure #3, which has brought intermittent rain and strong winds in various areas of the national territory.

They also mention that part of the rain would reach the mountainous areas of the Central Valley.
Regarding the winds, a greater frequency of gusts in the North Pacific, Central Valley and the mountain ranges is expected, with speeds between 30 and 65 km/h in the lower parts, while in the higher altitude areas ranges between 70 and 90 km/h are expected.
Given this situation, the IMN asks to take precautions, especially in the mountainous sectors of the Caribbean, Northern Zone and South Pacific.
For their part, the Comision Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the northern zone and the north Caribbean.
“High soil saturation remains, so we recommend the population to remain vigilant for flash floods, take extreme precautions due to strong winds and their effects on roofs, poles, electrical wiring, signs, trees, and others, and in case of any emergency, call 9-1-1,” explains the CNE.

The official weather forecast for Tuesday, December 03, 2024:
This Tuesday the effects of the cold push #3 that last weekend was transiting the Caribbean Sea persist. The high pressure system that accompanies this push, increases the intensity of the trade winds in Central America and part of the Caribbean basin, dragging moisture to the region and that will generate rainfall in Costa Rica.
The North Pacific will be the windiest region of the country, with strong wind gusts near the mountain range (between 40 km/h and 60km/h) and maximum intensities between 80 km/h and 90km/h near La Cruz.
In the Central Valley, gusts of up to 40 km/h are expected, with maximum values of 70 km/h in the upper parts of the mountains and volcanoes. Rainfall is expected during the course of the day both in the Caribbean regions and in the Northern Zone; in addition to drizzle in the mountain ranges of the North Pacific and the Central Valley, it is not ruled out the occurrence of weak rain of short duration in the lower parts of the latter regions coming from the mountains.
