“¡Uy mae, sí hay vivos!”

QCOSTARICA — “¡Uy mae, sí hay vivos!” (“Oh man, there are some alive!”) were the words of one of the rescuers hearing the call from Paola Amador, the only survivor of the plane crash on Monday, in Pico Blanco, Escazú.

Five people died, the pilot, copilot, and three passengers died in the crash.

Apparently, the plane was returning from Barra de Tortuguero, picking up passengers from a tourism agency that had been on an inspection of the Caribbean coast as part of the work.

The Cessna 206 with the call letters TI-GER, operated by Aero Caribe, was headed for the Tobias Bolaños airport in Pavas but was diverted to the Juan Santamaria International Airport in Alajuela due to weather conditions.

Apparently, the plane ran into problems. Civil Aviation said on Tuesday the final report on the crash is expected in a year.

Monday’s crash is the seventh and claimed the lives of 45 people in the last 24 years.
