QCOSTARICA — Inflatable boats, helmets, life jackets, water rescue ropes, chainsaws, blankets and rope rescue devices, all part of the donations sent by the United States to various institutions to deal with the rain emergencies of the last few days in Costa Rica.
The Red Cross, for example, received US$50,000 in equipment. World Vision was granted US$25,000 to purchase bath and hand soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, toilet paper, mattresses, blankets and diapers for babies and adults. The National Emergency Commission (CNE) also received mattresses and blankets valued at US$50,000.
Some materials sponsored by the United States, such as boats, have already been used since the weekend for search and rescue efforts. Others will be used for care.

Finally, three American consultants will evaluate the damage and priority needs in the communities affected by the floods in Guanacaste.
“The U.S. government will continue to respond proactively to the Costa Rican government to support its rescue efforts,” said U.S. Ambassador to Costa Rica, Cynthia Telles.
In recent weeks, various weather phenomena have hit the country in different areas from the indirect effects of Hurricane Rafael and Storm Sara, raising alert levels to red. According to the CNE count, the first half of November alone had 2,500 incidents.
