Weather forecast for this Friday: Unstable conditions expected

QCOSTARICA — As the rainy season winds down, we can expect unstable weather conditions throughout most of the country, with the areas hardest affected being the North and South Pacific.

The offficial weather forecast by the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) – national weather service – for this Friday, November 8, 2024, is:

“This Friday, tropical wave number 45 is expected to pass through. This system, together with the high humidity content and the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, will favor a rainy environment in the country. During the early morning, rain is expected in coastal areas of the Pacific, which could persist until the early hours of the morning. In the afternoon, rain is expected to occur in the Pacific, Central Valley, Northern Zone and mountains of the Caribbean. In addition, the development of thunderstorms is possible in mountainous areas of the Pacific, Central Valley and Caribbean. The rain is expected to continue during the early hours of the night, with the possibility of fog banks in the Central Valley.”

The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) – National Emergency Commission – and the Cruz Roja Costarricense – Costa Rican Red Cross – maintain the Orange Alert status for Pacific areas and the Central Valley and a Yellow Alert for the North Caribbean area.

This is after the heavy rains on Thursday in several parts of the country, that resulted in 62 incidents of flooding and 143 people moved to shelters.

Be on the alert for adverse weather conditions in your area, including rising rivers and creeks, flooding, and landslides. Be prepared.
