Price of gasoline at the pumps drops this week

QCOSTARICA – On Friday the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios (Aresep) approved a drop in fuels that will go into effect this week, following the publication in the national newsletter, La Gaceta.

Expected in the coming days are a drop of ¢20 colones for a liter of super and ¢21 for regular. Diesel will drop a whopping ¢32 colones a liter.

The day following the La Gaceta publication, the adjusted fuel prices will be:

  • ¢667 for a liter of regular (down from today’s ¢688)
  • ¢700 for a liter of super (down from today’s ¢720)
  • ¢565 for a liter of diesel (down from today’s ¢597)

Adjusted downward are also other fuels such as propane, used across the country in many kitchens at home and commerce.

This reduction in fuel prices is due to the extraordinary adjustment in September, as explained by Mario Mora, Aresep’s Energy Superintendent. He said that this work is due to the measurement of geopolitical factors and the behavior of inventories.

However, Mora said that the political crisis in the Middle East is likely to have an upward impact on both crude oil and petroleum derivatives in the coming months.
