San Jose Airport will have the first Gaming Center in the region

QCOSTARICA — The Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), better known as the San Jose Airport, in collaboration with Red Global, creator and operator of Skyward Infinity, will have the first Gaming Center in an airport in the region starting this month.

With this initiative, travelers will be able to enjoy a unique entertainment experience while waiting for their flights, with access to cutting-edge video game platforms, including Formula 1 simulators and virtual reality games.

The new gaming room seeks to transform the waiting experience at the airport, adapting to the tastes and needs of passengers, mainly Generation Z and Millennials, who are estimated to spend between 15% and 20% of their free time on video games.

For this reason, this new Gaming Center will have Nintendo Switch, PS5 and PC consoles, with a catalog of more than 30 titles to choose from. Among the most notable options are virtual reality experiences and advanced simulators, ideal for both expert and casual gamers.

“The opening of this Gaming Center is part of our strategy of continuous improvement in the passenger experience. We know that travelers’ expectations are evolving, and we want to offer them new and attractive options that respond to their interests, especially in a world where video games are an integral part of daily life,” said Erick Barboza, Director of Business Development at AERIS, the operator of the San Jose Airport.

The Gaming Center will be available to any passenger over 12 years old, with payment options for time of use. Users will be able to reserve their gaming station in advance and enjoy snacks and drinks on site. This proposal resembles a VIP lounge, but aimed at those who prefer to immerse themselves in the world of video games during their waiting times.

“Our strategic focus is to provide travelers with different and memorable experiences than those they traditionally find on their travel routes,” said Fernando Castro, Vice President & General Manager of Red Global, owner of Skyward Infinity. “Video game centers provide passengers with an excellent way to spend time during their stays at airports.

“We transform the wait into pleasant, interactive experiences that add fun to the journey they have undertaken,” added Castro.

“We are proud to be the first airport in the region to have a gaming room of these characteristics. This new Gaming Center is not only a response to global trends, but also a reflection of our commitment to innovation and excellence in service. We want our passengers to see Juan Santamaría Airport not only as a transit point, but as a space where they can enjoy their time and live unforgettable experiences,” said Ricardo Hernández, Executive Director of AERIS.

The new Gaming Center is in line with the growing global trend of integrating digital entertainment areas within airports, offering passengers new ways to enjoy their waiting time. This innovative video game room will not only improve the user experience, but will also reinforce the image of Juan Santamaría International Airport as a benchmark in the adoption of modern technologies.
