Woman arrested who withdrew money from an ATM with stolen cards

QCOSTARICA — A tip to the 911 hotline led to the arrest of a woman early Sunday morning for possessing at least eight bank cars, all of which under different names.

She was also in possession of almost 4 million colones.

The tip from a concerned citizen who had seen the woman withdrawing money from an ATM using multiple cards. A somewhat unusual occurrence.

Police waited for the woman outside the Plaza Torres shopping center, in Ulloa, Heredia and detained her as she was leaving a financial institution ATM.

Adrián Noguera, the regional deputy director of the Heredia Fuerza Publica (national police), stated that the woman was detained and handed over to the judicial police, the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ).

Carrying various bank cards and large sums of cash is not a crime in Costa Rica. However, it is a crime to possess stolen cards and proceeds of a crime, such as the fraudulent withdrawal from an ATM.
