The Cafeteros, as the Colombian national team is also known, opened the scoring in the 31st minute after Costa Rica’s goalie Patrick Sequeira knocked down Jhon Córdoba. The mistake by Sequeira led to a penalty shot and Colombia’s first goal. A bad start is how many saw it.

Things didn’t go any better in the second half, with Colombia’s second goal fell with a header from Davinson Sánchez after a corner kick from James Rodríguez.

A few minutes later, Colombia’s third goal, with a shot by Jhon Córdoba, after a deep pass from James Rodríguez.

Colombia pressed for more, but weren’t able to connect.

With Friday’s win, the Colombians extended their undefeated streak to 25 games. Colombia’s last defeat was on February 1, 2022, when it lost 1-0 to Argentina in the Conmebol Qualifiers for the last World Cup.

The loss leaves the Ticos in third place in Group D. While mathematically there is a possibility that they could qualify for the Quarterfinals, with Brazil losing “big time” against Colombia, while the Ticos must beat Paraguay. Both games are on Tuesday, July 2, at 7:00 pm local time.
