Mexican business summit congratulates Claudia Sheinbaum on her electoral victory

Q24N (EFE) The Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE), the business leadership of Mexico, congratulated on Monday Claudia Sheinbaum Prado, who won on Sunday the 2024 Mexican general election representing the left-wing political party Morena.

In a statement, the CCE, which brings together more than 2,000 associations that together contribute close to 80% of Mexico’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), congratulated president-elect Sheinbaum, as well as the governors, mayors, senators and federal and local deputies who were also elected.

The businessmen recognized opponents Xóchitl Gálvez and Jorge Álvarez Máynez “for their important participation and commitment in this race, as well as their vision to address and confront the great challenges of our country.”

“Now the unity of all citizens who long for a better Mexico for all must continue, a free, democratic, fair, prosperous and inclusive Mexico, where differences are respected and we agree on the essentials,” said the CCE.

Furthermore, Mexican businessmen celebrated the “unprecedented” citizen participation recorded on this election day, between 57 and 60%, which “shows that Mexican society is increasingly aware that its voice, through voting. It is essential to continue building a solid democracy.”

The businessmen also congratulated and recognized the electoral authorities, the workers of the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) – National Electoral Institute – and the thousands of citizen poll workers (voting centers) “who made the holding of these elections possible.”

The CCE pointed out that from the business sector and committed to the development of Mexico, “we will have to work with the future president, as well as with the elected authorities in the three levels of government, federal, state and municipal, and in the Executive and Legislative, “with complete willingness and openness to dialogue to continue building a strong economy and boost the growth of Mexico, generating investment and jobs for Mexican families.”

Sheinbaum will be the first female president of Mexico in 200 years after obtaining between 58.3% and 60.7% of the votes in Sunday’s elections, according to the INE quick count, against a range of between 26.6% and 28.6% of her main rival, the opposition Gálvez.

Meanwhile, Álvarez Máynez, candidate of the opposition Citizen Movement (MC), would receive between 9.9% and 10.8% of the votes, as detailed by the president of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, in a message broadcast on the national network.

The INE quick count is the first formal scrutiny of the autonomous body, which is based “on a representative statistical sample” of 5,651 voting centers with a confidence level of at least 95%.
