Route buses and passengers will NOT pay for the ferry while the La Amistad bridge is closed

QCOSTARICA — To mitigate the impact that users will suffer due to the closure of the La Amistad bridge, over the Tempisque River, starting April 1, among the agreements made by the government is to allow route buses and their passengers use the ferry service at no charge.

So, starting April 1 and until the bridge reopens sometime in the middle of July, the 24th is the target date, route buses and their passengers will be able to cross the peninsular on the Naviera Tambor (Puntarenas – Paquera) and the Coonatramar RL ferry (Puntarenas – Playa Naranjo) free of charge.

In addition, the ferry services will guarantee space for buses and their passengers.

Also, more ferry crossings will be made. In the case of the Tambor, it plans to increase daily crossings from the current 16 to 18, while the Coonatramar from 31 to 28.

The only bus route operator not part of this agreement is the Transportes Inteligentes de Guanacaste company, which provides services on route 1502, between San José and places such as Tamarindo, Santa Cruz and Flamingo.

The bus company must travel through Liberia and from there along the Inter-American Highway (ruta 1).

And no bus ticket will increase in price. That is in effect on all bus routes, either they take the ferry or do the land route.

In Liberia, the government has announced there will be a series of changes at the main intersection, taking into account that this route will receive a large part of the vehicular load.

Another option to land and land/ferry routes is to travel to and from Guanacaste by air.

To that point, the Government explained that the local air carrier Sansa proposed creating two flights San José-Nicoya and vice versa, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a reduced price for nationals of US$92 each way, while foreigners will pay US$155 each way.

Important to note that the San José-Nicoya and vice versa flights will depend on demand. That is, the airline needs to have a minimum of nine passengers, to cover operating costs.

Scheduled flights to/from Liberia, Tamarindo, Cobano, Montezuma, Mal Pais, and Santa Teresa, will operate normally.
