Tourism sector will face ‘turbulence’ during this year’s low season

QCOSTARICA — Costa Rica’s tourism sector will face different ‘turbulences’ this year during the “low” season, typically between May and November.

The dollar exchange rate, the growing wave of crime, and the departure of national tourists to other destinations, which they consider ‘cheaper’, cloud the situation of tourism companies.

Costa Rica has had a unique and thriving tourism industry for a number of years, with 2024 en route to the best ever in terms of tourist arrivals, to nearly 3 million tourists annually.

The typical tourist will typically visit two to four different locations during a single trip, which could include combination visits to a beach and a national park.

Following the pandemic, there was a significant increase in tourist visits, particularly during the “high” season, December to April.

What are the repercussions?
